Jeff Pouland Photography

Jeff Pouland is an award-winning photojournalist who resides in central Maine with his wife and two sons. Before embarking as a freelance photojournalist in 2008, Jeff spent five years as a staff photographer at the Morning Sentinel in Waterville, Maine. Jeff is available for editorial and commercial assignments and weddings.   

Jeff began his career as a photojournalist at The Daily Tar Heel at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received at B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication in 2000. After graduation, Jeff refined his skills as an intern at the Journal Tribune in Biddeford, Maine and at The Columbus Dispatch in Columbus, Ohio in 2001. In 2002 he moved back to Maine becoming a full-time staff photographer at the Journal Tribune. In 2003 Jeff was selected among 1,000 applicants to attend the prestigious Eddie Adams Workshop for the nation’s 100 most promising young photojournalists. Also in 2003 Jeff moved to Waterville, Maine and joined the Morning Sentinel where he worked as a staff photographer until 2008.

While Jeff began his career as a photojournalist in college, his passion for photography was sparked at a young age. In 1986 at the age of 9, Jeff got his first subscription to Sports Illustrated. Later, it was as a member of his high school yearbook staff that Jeff decided to make photography his career. It was at Woodstock ’94 at the age of 17 when Jeff captured a moment that defines his style of simplicity in the complex. It was a photograph of a young man covered head to foot in mud except for a clean case of beer cradled under his arm. Jeff tries to capture moments that are visually striking and speak to the viewer while telling a story with little explanation. Jeff describes his ability as versatile, his style as simple, his work ethic as professional, and his business as focused on the meeting client’s individual needs.

Jeff is a member of the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce.
